Day 17 - The Grand Canyon

After getting a glimpse of the Grand Canyon during the prior evening, Bronwyn was up at the crack of dawn, eager to start exploring the Grand Canyon.  Unfortunately, the rest of us were not quite as eager to get up so Bronwyn enjoyed an early morning walk (seeing a few deer along the way) while the rest of us caught up on our sleep.  After a big breakfast of sausage and pancakes, we finally set out for the rim of the Grand Canyon.

Due to the large amount of visitors at the Grand Canyon, it is necessary to take free busses to most of the popular Grand Canyon overlooks on the South Rim.  We took two busses along the rim and then hike for a couple of miles along the rim.  The views were spectacular and Will enjoyed seeing how close to the edge he could get before I had a heart attack.  However, Will did have enough sense to decline our dare to hike across the canyon and meet us at the North Rim.

In the afternoon, we hooked up the trailer and headed for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, which required about a four hour drive, including crossing over the Colorado River at Marble Canyon.

By 6:30, we were set up at a campsite near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  After another great dinner, Bronwyn collapsed (remember, she got up at dawn) while the rest of us viewed the stars through Joan's telescope.  And the stars were amazing.
