Day 4 - Audrey's here!!!!!!

We left Austin this morning and drove to San Antonio to pick up Audrey at the airport.  Joan is so happy to have her brown-eyed buddy here with us!

We left the camper at our new kampground (that is how KOA spells it....for future reference) before we left for the airport.  Good thing.....we would have never made it through the arrivals traffic lane pulling that behind us.

From the airport, we made our first stop on our quick tour of San Antonio....... to the Mission San Jose.

The Mission San Jose was very interesting.  The old mission has been repaired and reconstructed to its original dimensions which provides a much better feel for what a mission was like than the Alamo mission, which is in downtown San Antonio.

Mission San Jose is also a National Park Service site and thus lacks the touristy feel of the Alamo (which has a a Ripley's Believe It or Not Odditorium directly across the street).  We watched the NPS movie, and took a ranger lead tour, which were both excellent.  Joan filled out the Junior Ranger questionnaire and was awarded her first Junior Ranger badge.

From there, we made our way to the Alamo.   At the Alamo, we took a quick tour, were shepherded through a gift shop, and then onto a plaza filled with various vendors.

We ended the day walking along the Riverwalk.  It was nice to be down under.....out of the sweltering sun.  We had an early dinner, so Joan and Audrey could get back to the KOA for an evening swim (while Rick and I made another WalMart run for supplies....preparing for our journey to the remote southern edge of Texas).

One final note about the temperature.  Yesterday, I thought that the temperature probably dropped to the low 90s in the late afternoon.  Wrong!  The National Weather Service said that it was 99 degrees fahrenheit at 5:30 p.m.  Today it seemed even hotter.  We can't wait to get the really hot parts of Texas tomorrow.

We have a really bad internet connection tonight so we have been unable to upload pictures.  However, we will try again later.
