Carlsbad Caverns

Today we got up early to hike through Carlsbad Caverns.  By 8:45 a.m., we had driven up to the park and were descending into the cave.

We spent 4 hours under the ground exploring the cave, including a 90 minute tour guided by a ranger.  During that time, we took a lot of mostly blurry pictures in the dark, as we attempted to record the marvels of the caves.  An ordinary flash, just can't capture the immensity of some of the rooms in the cave.

Joan wasn't too sure that she liked the idea of going down into a cave, but she gradually grew to like it, particularly after she picked up a bright pink spelunking helmet.

Of course, Joan also picked up another Junior Ranger badge.  She now has quite a collection of badges.

After returning to our campground to pick up our trailer, we headed for Albuquerque, arriving at about 6:30 pm.  After unhitching the trailer, we went to the Old Town and had a New Mexican meal in a 300-year-old adobe home.

Tomorrow, we have to get up early to take Audrey to the airport so that she can present a paper in Quebec.  We will all miss Audrey, but Joan will be particuarly lost without her big sister and brown-eyed buddy.  Audrey has been very patient as Joan folowed her every step for the past five days.
